Welcome to my review!

For my birthday this year I received a very special gift from my husband, Cody. He gave me a cookbook written by the most wonderful woman whom I have come to adore for a couple of years now. My boss got me started on reading this woman's blog and I have become more and more obsessed with each passing entry she makes. Sounds kinds of stalking like, but hey, its a public blog she writes! This woman is the Pioneer Woman. Her cookbook, Pioneer Woman Cooks. PW (Pioneer Woman) lives my life at a more extreme level. I can relate to her, cows, horses, kids, and especially the handsome husband. My Cody is quite dashing!

I am cooking up her cookbook. I will write reviews of the recipes she has created. The reviews will also include my family's thoughts of the recipes. This will be one way I can feel like I am friends with PW, we can cook together!

Comfort meatballs

This has been a crazy week! So I am about 6 weeks pregnant and I have just been so tired. But I went ahead and made the Comfort Meatballs out of Ree's cookbook. To me, it seemed similar to meatloaf, but just little ball size. And I am not a fan of meatloaf, I will say that now. But I know my husband loves it, so I broke down and made them. The meatballs are a mix of ground beef, oats, onion, milk and salt and pepper. Seems easy enough right? You betcha! You roll those little doggies around into a little ball and dredge them in some flour and brown em in some grease...Ree only does it the down home way!

There is a sauce that goes over the top after you brown them. It consists of ketchup (I think it is icky, especially now that I am preggo...) sugar, distilled vinegar, Worcestershire (which I can't even say correctly so I am glad I am only typing it!) onion and Tabasco...all mixed together in a yummy concoction of red sauciness. You pour this sauce over the meatballs and cook it in the oven.

So my take on this different version of meatloaf? Drum roll please....it was OK! I didn't LOVE it, but I did like it. My husband on the other hand, ate everything I couldn't and wanted more! So definitely a winner for him!

While I was making the meatballs, my husband comes in and tells me it is time to check cows and tag the new little ones! So this was a good recipe to be able to stop and go check the hot mama's ready for their little ones! I love those babies! I love bottle feeding them and showing them some love. I was just telling Cody, they are just like our kids with all the hard work and time he puts into them. Call it the extended family!

So this is definitely a weekend meal for the average busy family.

Next on the list: Beans and cornbread, Patsy's Blackberry Cobbler, and French Breakfast Puffs!! Stay tuned...
